Statistical Mapping
Statistical mapping has a number of purposes. Firstly, it can give you a visual appearance of your data which makes it possible to see it from a different perspective. It’s similar to looking at a graph in Excel.
Secondly, mapping can show “relative household penetration” enabling localised marketing to be more focused and effective.
A Visual Example
Here is an example made on behalf of a Volvo repair garage in Harlow. This shows the number of Volvo car owners in Essex. We can see the market penetration as the darker areas have a higher concentration of owners, the lighter the colour, less. Have a look by clicking here.
This map was created by us to evaluate which newspapers and other publications, local newspapers in this case, would cover these areas. Obviously, Colchester has the highest concentration so we could concentrate our efforts primarily in that region. It is much easier to view this as a map than as pure data.
We use the opportunities to map data wherever possible as it makes the use of data more interesting and understandable. Through this we can perfect our marketing campaigns to obtain the best possible results.
We hope you found this information useful. We would like to remind you that this subject is best served, and more effective as part of a complete marketing plan or strategy, rather than in isolation.
